It’s Not Just Facebook’s Co-Founder Who’s Trying to Dodge Taxes

Merrick Morton / Columbia Pictures / Everett

Young billionaire Eduardo Saverin has always had clever lawyers. He famously sued his Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg to win official co-founder status. Now, just ahead of Facebook’s IPO and the expected pop in the value of his shares, Saverin has renounced U.S. citizenship. On advice of counsel, he’s established residency in Singapore, where there is [...]

The Whitewashing of Arizona

Eric Thayer / Reuters

There is a community of Arizonans who live in constant anxiety. They worry that their neighbors want to persecute them. They feel surrounded by hostile strangers. Why China’s Rise Is Great for America

ChinaFotoPress / Getty Images

A book called Becoming China’s Bitch arrived at my office the other day. It certainly got my attention. As I started reading, I braced for an angry xenophobic rant, a litany of offenses by the sinister, relentless yellow horde. But the book, it turns out, doesn’t quite have the courage of its cover: it’s just [...]

Jeremy Lin Makes Us All American

After watching my first World Series in 1977, I wanted to be Reggie Jackson. I bought a big Reggie poster. I ate Reggie candy bars. I entered a phase during which I insisted on having the same style of glasses Reggie had: gold wire frames with the double bar across. As a 9-year-old son of [...]
