Mitt Has No ‘Multi-Dimensions’ to Offer Americans

Romney can't connect to the “little people” from the grand podium, when he has proven to be awkward in trying to “relate” in every public moment so far.

A quote from Mike Murphy’s article [“Who Will Mitt Speak To?”]: “Voters need to see a multidimensional human being who instinctively feels their pain and understands the deep fear a broken economy brings to the vulnerable.”

It is absurd to think that Romney can connect to the “little people” from the grand podium, when he has proven to be awkward in trying to “relate” in every public moment so far. (“Gee, I eat sandwiches and drive a car — just like you folks.”) There is no “multi” to Mitt’s dimensions and no understanding of the people’s daily plight. Even the best handlers cannot fabricate a persona for him.

“Romney’s speech must go beyond mere biography and paint a vivid picture of where he wants to lead the country,” Murphy wrote. That is essentially what has been missing [from Romney’s campaign] for months now. People will be listening very carefully to what he has to say, even though the stage-crafting will probably be over-the-top at the convention. You can be attracted by the sizzle, but you need to see the steak.
