Phasing out the penny should be a bi-partisan, no-brainer way to help our economy [“Waiting for Change”]. But it should be done in tandem with scrapping the dollar bill in favor of dollar coins, which would reduce our deficit even more. Everyone will get used to reformed currency after only a year or so of grumbling. And the zinc industry will still supply 6% of each dollar coin.
