Chicago Ideas Week

Chicago Ideas Week is an annual event, co-hosted by TIME, that brings together leaders in politics (Rahm Emanuel); fashion (Donna Karan); entertainment (M. Night Shyamalan, Cat Cora); media (Malcom Gladwell, David Gregory, Dan Savage) and more for a series of events exploring the power of innovation. Beginning Monday, October 14th, TIME.com will bring you the best of their insights and ideas.

Among the week’s highlights:

Middle East: After the Arab Spring”  (10/14)

A mix of journalists, scholars, and experts—including TIME’s own international editor, Bobby Ghosh—will reflect on the latest turmoil in the Middle East. Their driving question: What role does the U.S. have, why should you care?

Politics: State of the Union (10/15)

Some of today’s most prominent newsmakers—including “Meet the Press” host David Gregory and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel—will discuss what’s working, and what’s not, in American democracy.

Music: Evolution of the Artist” (10/17)

A sampling of artists and entertainment execs—including singer-songwriter Mike Posner and WME partner Marc Geiger—will discuss howto thrive in the modern music industry.

Cities: Concrete Solutions (10/18)

How will people live in the cities of the future? And what will that say about the world at large? A group of urban experts—including TIME editor Rana Foroohar—will take those questions, and more.
