The open-sourced website-building software Matt Mullenweg created when he was a college student in Houston, which he called “WordPress,” is now the single most widely-used content management system on the Internet (it powers such venerable websites as Time.com). More than half of the million most-million visited sites on the Internet run on WordPress. According to market research firm W3Techs, WordPress is also the most popular CMS on the web, powering about 20% of all sites.
